A fundraiser that turned a school into a community

Amid the bustle of basketball intramurals, meetings of the Yearbook Club, social studies homework, progress reports and the latest on who has a crush on whom, something unusual happened recently at Fort Zumwalt South Middle School.

For two weeks, students stepped outside their own busy worlds to participate in a simple fundraiser for Abigail Wunder Logan, an eighth-grader battling a grave form of cancer.

From Feb. 10-20, students purchased green ribbons for 50 cents.

Why green?

It’s Abigail’s favorite color – at least when it doesn’t happen to be orange. It changes, you see, she told me Monday, her first day back in school since prior to winter break.
