Random drug testing for teachers?

According to my colleague, Steve Pokin’s column on Sunday, a Missouri lawmaker has submitted a bill that would require all school districts to randomly drug test teachers.

Three of the co-sponsors on the bill are from St. Charles County.

USA Today recently published a story that looked at this trend nationally. Apparently a very small handful of districts  randomly drug test teachers.  The state teacher’s association in North Carolina filed a lawsuit against a small school district in 2007 to prevent the random testing.  Now they are waiting ruling from the state appeals court.

What are your thoughts? Should teachers be randomly drug tested? If the tests are positive what should happen next?
